Communities Thrive @Your Library

National Library Week has begun, and it is time to celebrate the contributions of libraries and librarians nationwide!

A library provides its community with an immense amount of information. Librarians help people find and interpret information pertinent to their daily lives. Thus, a library’s contribution to its community is invaluable.

Libraries offer free resources to help people find jobs and learn new skills. People come to their local library as a source of entertainment, to discuss and swap opinions about books, and to feel a sense of community. Our libraries also provide a safe, educational place for children to gather.

Despite their importance and impact on community life, libraries across the country face closings and cutbacks. As part of National Library Week, ALA has asked that you contact your local legislators to voice your support of libraries.
