It’s never too early to tackle the tough stuff. Author Lynne Mayer and illustrator Sherry Rogers introduce children to the science of physics through the playful story of a boy and his pet dog in their spring 2010 release,“Newton and Me.”
Told in rhyme, “Newton and Me” follows two best friends on an adventure as they learn to apply the basic principles of physics to throwing a ball, pulling a wagon, riding a bike, and much more. With the help of Sherry Rogers’ playful illustrations, children will learn that physics is all around, and Newton’s Laws of Motion apply to every day experiences.
Meyer said, “I’ve always wanted to write children’s books and would write stories for/with my children when they were young. And as an educator, I wanted to write books that would teach. The acts of rolling a ball or riding a bike are activities that a child has already experienced. My hope is that this story will make children think about those activities in a way that will help them understand forces and motion better.”
